Fort Worth – I.M. Terrell Elementary School in Fort Worth is set to host a Career Day event on Friday, May 8th, where students will learn about various careers and vocations. Among the list of community and business leaders set to present information to students are the founding lawyers of the Fort Worth based personal injury law firm of Witherite Law Group. Attorney Amy Witherite and Brian Eberstein will pass out goodies and speak to third, fourth, and fifth grade students about topics such as the education requirements for becoming an attorney, the day-to-day duties of their jobs, and the courtroom environment.

Each One, Teach One: Staying Committed to Community Causes

In addition to providing legal representation, the Fort Worth Injury attorneys of Eberstein & Witherite LLP have earned a distinction as being community advocates for maintaining a presence at many events that are important to those in the Fort Worth community. When recognizing the efforts of the firm, Lorie Blair of Elite News wrote in the publication, “There are many really capable law firms in our city but no one does as good a job as Witherite Law Group when it comes to “walkin’ the walk” and doing what they say they will do both for their clients and our community.”

The firm has provided scholarships to graduating seniors at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and participated in the school’s Challenge Day geared toward reducing incidents of bullying and promoting tolerance among students. Of the upcoming community initiative, Attorney Amy Witherite says, “this is an exciting opportunity to get young people thinking about their future and all of the possibilities that can exist for them if they work hard to pursue their dreams.”

About I.M. Terrell Elementary

I.M. Terrell Elementary is named after Isaiah Milligan Terrell, who served as principal of the first free public school for students of color in the Fort Worth school system until 1915. The school became an elementary school in 1938 after first serving the educational needs of high school aged students since it was opened in 1882. The current location of the school is that of the former Terrell High School prior to 1938.

Career Day is an annual Fort Worth ISD district wide event designed to introduce students to different career options well in advance of them pursuing a secondary education. Many students do not gain exposure to certain fields that may be of interest to them in the future early on when they are receiving an education. In a report on a previous study on dropout rates in cities like Dallas and Fort Worth, Fort Worth was ranked 12th on the list of locations with an improving graduation rate; however remained below the national graduation rate average, which was then 71 percent. I.M. Terrell Elementary hosts Career Day at the elementary level to create awareness for students to attend college and promote career readiness. This year’s theme is “Career Fiesta.”

Says Attorney Amy Witherite “there are many areas where we need to see more positive numbers when it comes to the outcomes for students in the public education system. Exposing those in underserved areas to career opportunities and giving them tools to help direct them on the path to better can go a long way in achieving this goal.
